                    Purchase of own shares for cancellation


Compass Group PLC announces that on 23 February 2007 it purchased for
cancellation 1,000,000 ordinary shares at a price of 308.8542 pence per share
from Morgan Stanley.



Following the purchase and upon cancellation of these shares, the number of
ordinary shares of Compass Group PLC in issue with voting rights will be
2,024,269,158.
