Notes to editors
*VME (Versa Module Europa)
The VME protocol defines a high speed interfacing system used to interconnect
data processing, data storage and peripheral control devices in a closely
coupled hardware configuration. VME boards are inserted from the front of the
chassis, and the inputs and outputs can break out either to the front or through
the rear. It is used primarily in defence, transportation, scientific and
industrial markets.
**CompactPCI
CompactPCI is a very high performance bus based on the standard PCI electrical
specification in rugged 3U or 6U Eurocard packaging. Contrary to its desktop
cousin, a CompactPCI board uses a high quality 2 mm metric pin and socket
connector that meets IEC and Bellcore standards. CompactPCI boards are inserted
from the front of the chassis, and the inputs and outputs can break out either
to the front or through the rear. It is used primarily in telecoms and
scientific markets.
