COSTAIN GROUP PLC
Contract Wins
Costain, the international engineering and construction group, announces a
number of contract wins since the beginning of the year.
The Costain Group ('Costain' or 'The Group') announces that it has won a number
of contracts in the Healthcare and Infrastructure sectors since the beginning of
the year.
The Group has been awarded the £28 million civil engineering contract for the
extension of the Port of Felixstowe's Trinity Terminal for Hutchison Port
Holdings. Costain will extend the terminal quay a further 270 metres, as well as
dredge the channel approach to 14.5 metres deep continuous with the extension
and alongside the berth to 15 metres deep. It will also provide an additional 15
hectares of additional container storage space. The project is expected to
commence in mid-February, 2003.
In London, Costain has been awarded contracts totalling approximately £20
million. These include a contract for £8 million from The London NHS Trust to
refurbish the West Wing at St Bartholomew's Hospital in the City, due for
completion in May 2004. This is the first development in creating a specialist
cancer and cardiac centre on the site.
Additional projects include the refurbishment of a number of Job Centres for the
Department of Work and Pensions and the Department of Social Security, with an
approximate value of £8 million, and the new Postgraduate Centre for the London
Metropolitan University.
Commenting on the contracts, Stuart Doughty, Chief Executive, said:
'We are delighted to have started the year with such high quality projects of
exactly the type the Group is looking to win. The repeat project at Felixstowe
reflects the strong relationships we have with our clients, while St
Bartholomew's is a further strengthening of our presence in the Healthcare
sector, an area we have identified as core to the Group's development.'
