Costain awarded A556 Knutsford to Bowdon Highways Agency contract
Costain has been awarded an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract by the Highways Agency to design and construct a major scheme to relieve congestion and improve safety on the A556 between the M56 and M6 motorways in the North West.
The scheme will see the A556 between Knutsford and Bowdon in Cheshire, which is used by 51,000 vehicles a day, upgraded to dual carriageway standard.
A bypass will take traffic away from the communities of Bucklow Hill, Mere and Over Tabley and Junction 7 of the M56 will be upgraded.
Commenting on the contract award, Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, said:
"We are delighted to have been awarded this ECI contract with such an important client and one that further strengthens our position as one of the UK's leading solution providers in the Highways sector."
