RE-ISSUE OF TREASURY SHARES 

CRH plc announces that on 23rd December 2008 it transferred to participants in its employee share schemes 8,978 Ordinary Shares at €13.15 per Ordinary Share and between £9.66 and £15.68 per Ordinary Share.

Following the above transactions, CRH plc holds 16,210,005 Ordinary Shares in Treasury. The number of Ordinary Shares in issue (excluding Treasury Shares) is 532,292,373.
