Appointment of Magdalena Gerger as a Non-Executive Director
Currys plc (the 'Company') is pleased to announce the appointment of Magdalena Gerger as an Independent Non-Executive Director and a member of the Remuneration, Nominations and ESG committees with effect from 1 May 2023.
Magdalena is an experienced executive and non-executive board director. She was President and CEO of Systembolaget, a Swedish government-owned retailer of wines, beers and spirits with revenues of SEK 40bn (£3.1bn) and 450 stores across Sweden from 2009 to 2022. During her tenure this business increased market share, and Magdalena oversaw the development of a new customer journey and the introduction of an online system and service.
Prior to joining Systembolaget, Magdalena held positions as Senior Vice President of Arla Foods with responsibilities for Global Fresh Dairy and Nordic Marketing & Innovation, as Category Head for Nescafe and Retail Coffee at Nestle UK and as UK Marketing Director at Tambrands (now Proctor & Gamble) and at ICI Paints.
Magdalena is a Swedish national. She graduated with an MBA from Stockholm School of Economics in 1989 and has over 20 years' non-executive director experience. She is a Non-Executive Director of Peab AB and Investor AB. Her past non-executive roles have included board positions with Ingka Holding BV (IKEA), Husqvarna AB, Humana AB and Ahlsell AB.
Magdalena is the Chair of Nefab Group, a private company, the Business Council of The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the British Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
The Company also announces that Andrea Gisle Joosen will be stepping down as a Non-Executive Director on 5 July 2023, as she approaches a nine-year tenure on the Board.
