Below is the text of an announcement which was released to the
Hong Kong Stock Exchange today:

Year 2000 Readiness
Beijing Datang Power Generation Company Limited and its
subsidiaries (the 'Group') has completed Year 2000 compliance
tests on the production systems of the Group's power plants
and upgrading for its system software and hardware (except the
data collection system for Duo He Power Plant Unit 7) which
are susceptible to Year 2000 computer problem before 30th
September, 1999. The Group will conduct overhaul and repair
work on Duo He Power Plant Unit 7 by the end of October of
this year and upgrade the data collection system of that plant
unit to achieve Year 2000 compliance. The overhaul and repair
work will be completed by November of this year. By then, the
Group will be Year 2000 compliant.
The Group has completed Year 2000 compliance texts on the
production systems of the Group's power plants before 30th
September, 1999. In respect of the Group's and its power
plants' computer system hardware, software, applications and
communication interfaces with outside organisations which are
susceptible to Year 2000 computer problem, the upgrading of
system software and hardware (except the data collection
system for Duo He Power Plant Unit 7) has also been conducted.
Dou He Power Plant Unit 7 has to be in continuous operation
during which any upgrading work conducted on its data
collection system may affect its normal operation. In order
to reduce business risks, the Group will upgrade the data
collection system of that plant unit to achieve Year 2000
compliance at the same time when the regular overhaul and
repair work on Duo He Power Plant Unit 7 is conducted by the
end of October of this year in accordance with the original
production plan of the Group. The overhaul and repair work on
the plant unit and the upgrading work on the data collection
system will be completed by November of this year. By then,
the Group will be Year 2000 compliant.
The Group has developed a series of contingency measures to
ensure that Year 2000 computer problem will not have a
significant impact on its operation or arouse business risks.
Major measures include back-up of the production system,
safety and isolation measures for productions systems and
manual recording of measuring systems.
