DCC INVESTING IN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
DCC plc, the value added marketing and distribution group,
announces that on 24 September the Tanaiste (Deputy Prime
Minister of Ireland), Mary Harney, T.D., Minister for Trade,
Enterprise & Employment, launched the supply chain management
activities of DCC's subsidiary, SerCom Solutions (previously
known as Printech International).
SerCom Solutions is now one of Ireland's leading providers of
supply chain management services to the IT industry. These
services include procurement, project management,
localisation, sub-assembly, warehousing, just-in-time delivery
and e-commerce solutions. International IT companies are
increasingly outsourcing these activities.
Jim Flavin, Chief Executive and Deputy Chairman of DCC plc,
said today:
'The new supply chain management services now being provided
by DCC through SerCom Solutions are complementary to DCC's
business of adding value in marketing and distribution.
Against the background of e-commerce and business
globalisation, the IT industry is showing the way in the
adoption of supply chain management concepts which lead to
more cost effective and efficient distribution, shorter lead
times to market and reduced inventory levels. These supply
chain management concepts will be applied increasingly in
other industry sectors.
To take advantage of these trends, DCC has been making
significant investment in skilled personnel, IT -
incorporating e-commerce initiatives - and facilities through
SerCom Solutions and its localisation subsidiary, ITP. This
investment, while costly in the short term, is positioning DCC
for growth in supply chain management.'
SerCom Solutions is one of the few companies in Ireland
providing real e-commerce applications for its customers. It
has just launched e-Vision and e-File - two new e-commerce
tools which allow SerCom Solutions' customers online access to
its information system. These tools form part of a range of e-
commerce applications being launched by the company. By
making its internal systems web-accessible, SerCom Solutions
can provide its customers with full visibility of their
outsourced supply chain at the touch of a button.
SerCom Solutions has a major facility of 165,000 sq. ft. in
Dublin, a facility in Scotland of 55,000 sq. ft. and employs
400 people. A new facility is currently being opened in
Limerick and the company plans to commence operations on the
West Coast of the United States in October. In addition the
company has sales offices in Massachusetts and Tokyo.
Customers include 3Com, Avid, Canon, Dell, IBM, Network
Associates Inc, Nortel Networks and The Learning Company.
