APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


De La Rue plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Julian Horn-Smith as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 1 September 2009. 


Sir Julian was part of the founding team at Vodafone and is one of the foremost figures in the global mobile telecommunications industry.  His long and distinguished career at Vodafone started in 1984 and culminated in the position of Deputy CEO in 2005.  He was a director of Vodafone Group plc from 1996 to 2006. Prior to joining Vodafone, he worked for major international businesses including Mars GB and Philips.


He is a Senior Advisor to UBS Investment Bank in London and holds a number of other directorships including Lloyds Banking Group plc (non-executive director).  Sir Julian was previously a non-executive director of Smiths Group plc from 2000 to 2006 and the Sage Group plc from 2006 to 2008.


Commenting on the appointment Nicholas Brookes, Chairman of De La Rue plc said:


'Sir Julian has had an impressive career and brings with him extensive international experience of the private and public sectors.   He will make a valuable contribution to the Board and the strategic direction of the Group.'


There is nothing which is required to be disclosed under Listing Rule 9.6.13 (2) to (6) in respect of Sir Julian Horn-Smith.
