AGM Statement

D.F.S. Furniture Company PLC 03 December 2002 3 December 2002 DFS FURNITURE COMPANY plc CHAIRMAN'S A.G.M. STATEMENT At the Annual General Meeting held in Doncaster today, Executive Chairman Graham Kirkham said: 'Like-for-like sales in the first 17 weeks of the current financial year have continued to grow by over 7%, reflecting the strong trend of the second half last year, with margins in line with our budgets. However, we have experienced a softening of order intake in recent weeks, which will result in slower like-for-like sales growth in the latter part of the first half as these orders are translated into deliveries. In addition to like-for-like growth through our established stores, we are also benefiting from the opening of our new upholstery store in Hull on 27 August. Further openings are scheduled for Birstall (Leeds) and Watford on Saturday 7 December and our new store in Aberdeen will begin trading on Boxing Day. While the economic climate as a whole, and consumer confidence in particular, have clearly not improved since our preliminary announcement on 17 October, I remain as positive as ever about our huge scope for profitable expansion in the UK. I continue to expect that we will achieve further progress in the current year.'
