Diageo plc - Transaction in Own Shares

Diageo plc ('the Company') announces that it has today purchased through Credit
Suisse Securities (Europe) Limited 484,049 ordinary shares at a price of 1108.15
pence per share. The purchased shares will be held in employee benefit trusts
for the purpose of satisfying share awards made under the Company's employee
share plans.

Following the above purchase, the Company holds 278,915,976 ordinary shares as
treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares
held as treasury shares) is 2,893,173,123.
