DIALIGHT to provide signal lighting products to the State of New Mexico

Applied LED lighting technology specialist Dialight Plc, today announced that it is to supply the state of New Mexico with over 8,000 individual LED Traffic Signals, in the first phase of a programme to replace the incandescent lighting currently used in traffic intersections across the state. This order is supported by the expected $3 billion grant the state will receive as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment federal stimulus package

Dialight's signals lighting offers the lowest wattage of any LED signal and delivers energy savings of over 90% per signal compared to the traditional incandescent bulbs, with the state of New Mexico to save an estimated $500,000 per year in electricity costs. Having recognized the significant energy savings of LED traffic signals, the United States has many significant rebate programs for making the switch to LEDs. There are currently 38 states offering LED rebates or incentives for direct retrofits of red, green and yellow traffic lights, and many have proposed projects for utilizing the US Stimulus Package.

Dialight CEO, Roy Burton, comments: 'This contract is a further example of how the United States has a firm commitment to LED lighting in the future, with the significant cost savings it offers and its benefit to the environment. With many states expected to use stimulus package funds to invest in its LED programs, we should see greater momentum in agreements of this nature from other state governments across the United States.'
