From January 2002, easyJet will publish its Internet sales percentage
statistics biannually rather than monthly (as a part of the statistical tables
that accompany the published accounts). In November 1999, the first month for
which easyJet published data, 50.0 percent of tickets were sold through the
easyJet Internet site. easyJet was one of the first companies to grasp the
potential of the Internet as a selling medium and the Internet has been one of
the key factors that has allowed the company to rapidly grow its operations.
The percentage of tickets sold via easyJet.com has stabilised over the last
ten months and there is very little movement from month to month. The company
has now achieved its internal target of selling around 90 percent of tickets
via the Internet and it is not actively seeking to rise past this level.
1. Represents the number of earned seats flown by easyJet. Earned
seats include seats that are flown whether or not the passenger turns
up because easyJet is a no-refund airline, and once a flight has
departed a no-show customer is generally not entitled to change
flights or seek a refund. Earned seats also include seats provided for
promotional purposes and to easyJet staff for business travel.
2. Represents the number of passengers as a proportion of the
number of seats available for passengers. No weighting of the load
factor is carried out to recognise the effect of varying flight (or
'stage') lengths.
3. Represents the number of initial seat sales sold via the
easyJet Internet site as a percentage of total initial seat sales.
Initial seat sales exclude cancelled and amended seat sales.
