On 13 August 1999, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
400,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 483p. Following the buy
back, there are 286,898,471 ordinary shares in issue. The share buy-back will
be financed out of the capital reserve.
