Purchase of Own Securities

On 31 February 2000, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
150,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 491p per share and also
bought back a further 300,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at at price of
492.33p per share. Following the buy back, there are 277,437,364 ordinary
shares in issue. The share buy-back will be financed out of the capital
reserve.
