EMIS Web released to live GP sites
EMIS Group plc ("EMIS"), the UK's leading supplier of healthcare software and related services to GPs, today announces it has deployed version 3.0.1 of its next generation system, EMIS Web. The deployment is part of the next stage of the accreditation process for EMIS Web. The first GP practice to go "live" was on 11 May. EMIS Web has now been deployed to 4 GP sites in England.
The move follows completion of a rigorous 'Formal Witness Testing' process, which involved running through approximately 17,000 test scenarios.
In a separate development, 800 EMIS practices are to benefit from a new 'Familiarisation Service' that will allow them to begin streaming their data into EMIS Web.
The service is designed to smooth the process of migration to the system and to reduce training requirements for practices by allowing them to run EMIS Web alongside their existing EMIS system.
It permits read-only access to live data and allows GPs to experience the whole system via read/write access to 'dummy' patient data. More than 1,700 GP practices and PCTs are already using EMIS Web on a similar basis.
Sean Riddell, managing director of EMIS, said: "We are delighted that EMIS Web has been deployed in a live GP environment. This is a significant milestone.
"We are also pleased to report strong demand for the Familiarisation Service, which offers practices a convenient and time-efficient way of preparing for a migration. The extension of this service to an additional 800 practices marks another important step towards the full implementation of EMIS Web."

Notes to Editors
EMIS was established in March 1987 by two GPs who identified an opportunity to develop and supply practice management software and computerise patients' electronic health records then kept on paper at GPs' surgeries.
The Group has since become the UK's leading supplier of software and related services to GP surgeries and now leads the market, with around 34 million patient records held on its platform.
The Group's latest product, EMIS Web, electronically connects GPs with other NHS professionals by enabling secure, shared, centrally hosted access to patients' cradle-to-grave electronic health records held at the Group's data centres. The transformational system has the capability to interconnect with other NHS patient data systems to:
· save time and money by eliminating paperwork and the re-inputting of data;
· significantly reduce patient waiting times; and
· reduce the risk of prescribing and treatment errors.
EMIS is headquartered in Leeds with an overseas office in Canada. It employs 786 people, mainly in the UK.
