Eurasia Mining PLC
14 April 2003
Eurasia Mining PLC is pleased to announce the commencement of drilling on the
Tylai-Kosvinsky license area at West Kytlim in the Russian Urals. It marks the
start of an accelerated work programme for 2003 which could lead to pilot
production of platinum by the end of the year, and commercial production in
2004.
The work is being undertaken jointly with Anglo Platinum, the world's largest
platinum producer, which is currently providing 100% of funding through to the
completion of feasibility studies.
The 251 square-kilometer license area lies within the Kytlim Platinum District,
where historic hand-mining operations are estimated to have recovered more than
50 tonnes of platinum.
The new drilling programme is expected to involve the concurrent use of up to
four drilling rigs, and will aim to assess resource grades within alluvial
targets. Early targets will include high terraces and channels on the Tylai and
Sosnovka rivers. Drilling during the summer months will be directed at buried
terraces and channels on the Kosva River and in the Lobvinka area, as well as at
targets in limestone adjacent to the Tylai River.
The Tylai-Kosvinsky license was awarded to ZAO 'Kosvinsky Kamen', of which
Eurasia controls 75% on behalf of Eurasia and Anglo Platinum, in December 2002
after a protracted period of negotiation. Eurasia first identified the area in
2000 as the prime target for the initiation of its alluvial platinum programmes.
Results obtained to date at West Kytlim are of an order of magnitude better than
those obtained in exploration on Eurasia's other Urals alluvial projects. Pit
sampling has returned excellent results from un-mined river terraces of the
Tylai and Sosnovka rivers, with grades of up to 1,500 mg/m3. Good grades have
also been obtained from dredge tailings left by historic mining operations on
the Tylai River.
Eurasia will also test various metallurgical options for optimum platinum
recovery.
