                      EUROPEAN MOTOR HOLDINGS plc ("EMH")

                             PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

EMH announces that on 24 April 2002 it purchased for cancellation under an
existing authority granted by shareholders 1,365,000 ordinary shares of 40p each
in the market at a price of 1451/2p each, representing approximately 2.56% of
its issued share capital.  There remain 51,919,710 ordinary shares in issue.
