Feedback Plc to launch the 'Classroom of the Future'
Feedback will showcase their new venture at the Labour Party Conference
tonight. They will demonstrate, with their project partners British Telecom
and FVC.com, 'The Classroom of the Future'. Using a broadband connection,
guests will be able to link directly to classrooms at Crawley College to
experience state of the art production engineering equipment being used in a
two-way interactive training session.
Crawley College is a member of the Sussex Virtual College (SVC) network, which
was officially launched by Patricia Hewitt, DTI Minister for e-commerce, last
week. It was funded under the Government's Centres for Excellence and
Collaboration programme. The College uses Feedback's 'Virtual Campus', which
is at the core of the SVC network. It provides the platform for handling all
the multi-media teaching material and the interactive multicast video lecture
sessions. This project links 13 colleges in Sussex, in order to share
teaching resources, using BT's broadband network. FVC.com supplied the video
conferencing systems, which allow lessons to be broadcast.
Feedback and British Telecom are working as project partners on other
contracts. British Telecom is providing the telecommunications infrastructure
for the system through Cellstream, its flagship broadband ATM, which offers
full multimedia support for voice, data and video applications.
FVC.com is a private US corporation, which was founded in 1993 by Ralph
Ungermann one of the pioneers in the development of the microchip.
Shareholders include Paul Allen a founder of Microsoft. The company
specialises in video conferencing systems.
