Non Executive Director Appointments

Wolseley plc today announces the following changes to its Board. Tessa Bamford and Michael Clarke are joining the Board as Non Executive Directors on 22 March 2011 and Nigel Stein is retiring as a Non Executive Director after seven years service. 

Tessa Bamford is a Non Executive Director of Barratt Developments plc, a Governor of the British Institute of Florence and a Non Executive Director of Cantos Communications Limited, the online communications service provider. She was formerly a Director of J Henry Schroder & Co where she worked for 12 years in a number of roles between 1986 and 1998. Prior to that, Tessa worked in corporate finance for Barclays de Zoete Wedd.  Tessa will join the Remuneration Committee of the Board.

Michael Clarke is President of Kraft Foods Europe, headquartered in Zurich. A qualified accountant, he spent his early career in South Africa and Hong Kong before joining Reebok International in 1991, holding various positions including managing Reebok's Africa and Middle East businesses and serving as Vice President of South Asia/Pacific. Between 1996 and 2008 he held various roles at The Coca Cola Company including President of South Pacific and Korea, and President of North West Europe and Nordics. Michael worked for Deloitte between 1985 and 1989 in Cape Town and Hong Kong.  Michael will join the Audit Committee of the Board.

Nigel Stein (54) joined the Board in December 2003 and was a member of the Audit, Remuneration and Nominations Committees. A qualified accountant, Nigel is Chief Executive, Automotive of GKN plc a position he has held since June 2007, having previously been their Finance Director. He has recently become President of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the UK automotive trade association.

We would also like to thank Nigel for his significant contribution to Wolseley. With his increased business commitments elsewhere, he felt it necessary to step down from the Board. On behalf of everyone at Wolseley I wish him the very best in the future."
