FIDELITY JAPANESE VALUES PLC

The Board of Fidelity Japanese Values PLC announces that it has today posted a
circular to shareholders and warrantholders convening an extraordinary general
meeting of shareholders and a general meeting of warrantholders to be held on
8 September 1999 at 3.00pm and 3.05pm respectively.  The purpose of the
meetings is to give the Company authority to purchase up to 15,000,000
ordinary shares for cancellation (approximately 14.2% of the Company's issued
share capital) and approve the associated cancellation of its share premium
account.
