                          2001 Annual General Meeting
                         Executive Chairman's Statement


Filtronic plc ('Filtronic'), a leading global designer and manufacturer of a
broad range of customised microwave electronic products, held its Annual
General Meeting at Midland Hotel, Bradford, at 11.00am today.  Filtronic's
technology and engineering can be applied to several business sectors in both
the commercial and defence areas.  Filtronic has 17 worldwide sites, 7 in the
UK, 6 in the US, 2 in Finland, 1 each in Australia and China.

Prior to the formal proceedings, Professor David Rhodes, Executive Chairman,
made the following statement to shareholders regarding current trading and
operations and provided an update on its Newton Aycliffe facility in County
Durham.

Current trading and operations

'Results for the first quarter of our financial year were satisfactory.  The
uncertainties which currently exist in the global economy create a difficult
environment in which to look forward.  Nevertheless, our most recent forecasts
continue to indicate that trading will remain at least at current levels
throughout the first half and that market expectations for financial results
to 30 November 2001 will be achieved.

Our projections for an improved performance in the second half of the
financial year remain unchanged.

Cash generation in the first quarter has been strong and bank borrowings are
currently lower than at 31 May 2001.



Newton Aycliffe

Progress towards signing definitive agreements with both M/A Com, Inc. and BAe
SYSTEMS Avionics Limited has continued according to schedule.  I expect that
these agreements will be completed within the next several weeks.'
