                          Board Appointment: Group CEO

Filtronic plc. wishes to announce the appointment of Professor John Roulston,
OBE, FREng., CEng. as group CEO, effective from September 6th 2004. Professor
David Rhodes, CBE, FRS, FREng will remain as Chairman.

Professor Roulston has held board positions at BAE SYSTEMS Avionics and its
antecedent companies for some fifteen years and is widely known and respected in
the defence electronics industry world-wide. He has pioneered the strategic
technology link between BAE SYSTEMS and Filtronic in Gallium Arsenide and
integrated microwave technology. Both companies expect to benefit from enlarged
cooperation as a result of his appointment.

Filtronic has invested in advanced microwave technology to service its core
telecommunications market. This technology has spin-off applications in defence
products, specifically active array radar and electronic warfare, as well as
applications in power amplifiers for telecommunications base stations. Filtronic
anticipates the emergence of increasingly complex communications systems
applications incorporating active array antennas, an area where Professor
Roulston is an acknowledged expert.

This appointment advances the capability of Filtronic to access systems markets
in communications and sub-systems markets in defence. It strengthens the
Filtronic management team by bringing an additional depth of experience at board
level.

commencing 2nd August.'
