FIRSTGROUP AMERICA - MANAGEMENT CHANGES
FirstGroup plc announces today that John Dorr, Chief Executive Officer of
FirstGroup America and formerly CEO of Ryder Public Transportation Service
(RPTS) which was acquired by the Group in September 1999, will leave the
company in six months time on 12 September 2000.
At the time of the acquisition it was agreed that John Dorr would remain with
FirstGroup America to oversee the integration of RPTS into the Group. This
process is now well advanced and will be successfully completed by September
2000, and accordingly, it has been agreed that John will step down at this
time.
FirstGroup America, for which Tony Osbaldiston, Deputy Chief Executive of
FirstGroup plc, now has Group Board responsibility, has been split into three
functional profit centres each under the control of its own executive head.
These are First Student (school buses), led by John Elliott, First Transit
(transit contracting), led by Rich Clair and First Vehicle Services (fleet
maintenance), led by Bill Fowler. Steve Hebborn, Chief Financial Officer of
FirstGroup America will also report to Tony Osbaldiston.
Commenting, Tony Osbaldiston said: 'I would like to thank John for his
valuable contribution to the successful integration of RPTS into FirstGroup.
Trading of FirstGroup America in the six months to 31 March 2000 is in line
with our expectations at the time of its acquisition and we are optimistic
about the future growth opportunities presented by the American transportation
market.'
