                         New Board Appointment




The Board of Paddy Power plc today (22nd July 2003) announced the appointment of
Nigel Northridge, Chief Executive of Gallaher Group Plc, to the Board of the
Company as a non-executive director with immediate effect.  Aged 47, Nigel held
various sales and marketing roles with Gallaher after joining the company in
1976, before assuming responsibility for continental Europe in 1988.  In 1990,
he was appointed Managing Director of Gallaher (Dublin) in his native Ireland
and was subsequently appointed UK Sales and Marketing Director in 1994 and Group
Sales and Marketing Director in 1996. He was appointed Chief Executive of
Gallaher in January 2000 and is a non-executive director of Aggreko plc.



Commenting on the appointment, Fintan Drury, Chairman, Paddy Power plc said:  '

the highly successful development of Gallaher. His strategic capability,
commercial acumen and knowledge of the development of brand led organisations
