Stmnt re Betting Duty

                                   Statement


This morning, Power Leisure plc (Paddy Power Bookmakers) put out an
announcement regarding the reduction in betting duty in the Republic of
Ireland.

The company has decided that subsidising this tax is viable and with effect
from 1 May 2002 all its Licensed Betting Offices customers in Ireland will be
able to enjoy tax free betting.
