Future wins UK licence to publish Nintendo Official Magazine
Licence agreed with Nintendo UK
Future plc, the international special-interest media group, today announces that
it has been awarded the exclusive licence to publish the Nintendo Official
Magazine in the UK.
The licence builds on the successful relationship Future already has with
Nintendo in mainland Europe, as the publisher of the French and Italian editions
of Nintendo Official Magazines since 2002.
Future was awarded the UK licence by Nintendo UK following a competitive pitch
against other leading publishing companies. The first issue of the new Nintendo
Official Magazine will go on sale in February 2006.
To date, Nintendo has sold more than two billion video games worldwide and over
350 million hardware units globally. Nintendo manufactures and markets hardware
and software for its popular home video game systems, including the Nintendo 64,
Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy - the world's
best-selling video game system which has sold over 180 million units since it
went on sale in 1989. Nintendo is also due to launch a new home video games
system, codenamed Revolution, in 2006.
Commenting on the award Greg Ingham, Chief Executive of Future plc said:
'Nintendo has a strong brand in the games industry and we are delighted to
partner with them on this Official magazine in the UK. We've published
unofficial Nintendo titles in the UK since 1991 and the Official magazines in
France and Italy since 2002. Future looks forward to working with Nintendo in
building the magazine.'
