MIDAS HOMES IS APPOINTED TO REGENERATE CAMBORNE
Midas Homes has been chosen as the preferred development partner for a major
regeneration scheme that will bring new homes, jobs and increased prosperity to
Camborne.
National regeneration agency, English Partnerships, and CPR Regeneration,
Cornwall's Urban Regeneration Company, jointly selected Midas Homes to redevelop
the former CompAir Holman site in the Dolcoath area of town. The selection
criteria included sustainability, design quality and experience of community
consultation.
Midas Homes will now work with English Partnerships and CPR Regeneration on the
delivery of a mixed-use neighbourhood that will provide 390 homes and create
around 250 new jobs through the provision of offices and commercial
opportunities suitable for small businesses.
In response to local housing needs, 25 per cent of the new homes will be classed
as affordable and a further 15 per cent reserved for first-time buyers. Improved
road links, parking, public open spaces and new community facilities will create
an attractive, safe place where people will want to live, work and relax.
Bill Cawse, Managing Director of Midas Homes said: 'We're absolutely delighted
that English Partnerships and CPR Regeneration have selected Midas Homes, part
of the Galliford Try group, to regenerate the Dolcoath area in Camborne. Midas
Homes is a familiar name to the area already as we have been involved in
projects in Cornwall for a number of years and we are pleased that our previous
experience and commitment to Cornwall has been recognised.
'We are looking forward to starting work on this exciting regeneration scheme
and are dedicated to creating high-quality homes for the Camborne community.'
Steve Jackson, English Partnerships' Senior Regeneration Manager was impressed
by the quality of Midas Homes' submission. 'We want to create a high-quality
neighbourhood in Camborne that provides local people with well-designed homes
and helps to stimulate the town's economy. The award-winning team at Midas Homes
shares our aims and has a proven track record of delivering schemes on this
scale.
'Together with our partners at CPR Regeneration, we will transform the former
CompAir Holman site and make a really positive impact on the future of
Camborne.'
Nigel Tipple, Chief Executive of CPR Regeneration, said, 'Midas Homes has a
track record for high quality development and has won a clutch of national
awards so we know they will bring their excellence in design and construction to
this exciting new project for Camborne. Attracting a company of this calibre
demonstrates how the private sector is really starting to take notice of
Camborne, Pool and Redruth and we will continue to work with our partners to
promote the many development opportunities in the area.'
The mixed-use regeneration project will feature innovative building designs,
using locally sourced granite, slate and other materials. It will be a
contemporary development, which is environmentally sustainable and will benefit
from the eco homes rating of excellence.
Work on the scheme will commence in summer 2007.
