GALLIFORD TRY APPOINTED TO EDUCATION PROJECTS WORTH £85 MILLION

Galliford Try plc, the housebuilding and construction group, announces that it has been appointed to two new contracts within the education sector, worth a combined total of £85 million.

Firstly, Galliford Try's Morrison Construction business has been appointed as preferred contractor by Hub South West Scotland on behalf of North Ayrshire Council for the £43.3 million construction of the new Largs education campus.

Morrison will now proceed with obtaining planning permission for the scheme, which includes the relocation of Largs Academy, along with a relocated St Mary's RC Primary School and an additional primary school, created by the amalgamation of Brisbane and Kelburn Primary Schools. The campus will be built on the grounds of the sportscotland Inverclyde National Centre at Burnside Road, Largs.

The facilities will accommodate a maximum pupil roll of 2,120 aged from two to 18. Galliford Try's Investments business will also be investing in the company which will be set up to deliver the project.

Secondly, Galliford Try's Building business has reached financial close with the Education Funding Agency (EFA) over the £41.9 million Greenwich, Lewisham and Croydon batch of schools through the Priority School Building Programme.

The three schools in the batch include the £29 million Archbishop Lanfranc Academy project in Croydon, which will create a new building for an expanded roll of 1,350 pupils and provides new sporting facilities including a full athletics track. New buildings for Our Lady of Grace and Wingfield Primary schools in Greenwich, make up the remainder of the contract. A £5.5 million contract for a fourth school in the batch, Invicta Primary School in Greenwich, had been concluded earlier in the year.

Peter Truscott, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, commented: "We are now firmly established as one of the leading education contractors in the country with the total value of our order book in the sector exceeding £1 billion. This success is testament to our collaborative approach in working with both public sector commissioning bodies and schools to produce excellent facilities around the country, and we look forward to creating further high quality school buildings for the children of Largs and South London."
