APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Gem Diamonds (LSE: GEMD) is pleased to confirm the appointment of Lord Renwick
of Clifton as a Non-Executive Director of the Company with effect from 24
September 2007.
Lord Renwick served at an important time as British Ambassador to South Africa
and, subsequently, as British Ambassador to the United States.
He is Vice Chairman, Investment Banking, of JPMorgan Europe and Vice Chairman of
JPMorgan Cazenove. He is a Non-Executive Director of Compagnie Financiere
Richemont, Fluor Corporation, Kazakhmys plc and SABMiller plc. Lord Renwick
served previously on the boards of BHP Billiton, British Airways and Liberty
International.
Gem Diamonds, Chief Executive Officer, Clifford Elphick, commented:
'At the time of our IPO, the Board of Gem Diamonds committed to the shareholders
that they intended both to separate the role of Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer within twelve months and to appoint at least one further Non-Executive
