GOVETT EMERGING MARKETS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
ANNOUNCEMENT FOLLOWING ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
At the Annual General Meeting of Govett Emerging Markets Investment Trust PLC
held today the Special Resolution to bring forward the date of the continuation
vote from November 2003 to July 2001 was duly carried.
The Chairman, Lord Stewartby, also reported that the Board had asked the
Managers, AIB Govett Asset Management Limited, to explore ways of providing an
earlier solution for shareholders who did not wish to support the continuation
of the Company. 'The Board recognises', he said, 'that certain substantial
shareholders wish to dispose of their holdings before July 2001, and it has
therefore asked the Managers for proposals that would provide cash or an
appropriate rollover vehicle. The Managers have advised the Board that
discussions are currently taking place with a view to bringing forward proposals
for such a reconstruction as soon as practicable. If, for any reason, an
announcement to that effect has not been made by 31 March 2001, it would be the
Board's intention immediately to convene an Extraordinary General Meeting to
liquidate the Company, without waiting for July 2001.'
