Genus plc has been notified by The National Farmers Union Mutual Insurance
Society Limited (NFU Mutual) by written notification dated 13 January 2005, that
it is interested in 5,143,428 ordinary shares of 10p each in the capital of the
Company, which represents 13.8% of the ordinary shares in issue.

The said ordinary shares are registered in the name of Chase Nominees Limited,
PO Box 18171, 125 London Wall, London, EC2Y 5AJ.

NFU Mutual's holding has decreased by 1,000,000 shares following a recent trade.
Prior to this, NFU Mutual had a holding of 16.49%.
