GREGGS plc
CHAIRMAN'S A.G.M. STATEMENT
Greggs plc is the UK's leading retailer specialising in sandwiches, savouries
and other bakery products, with a particular focus on takeaway food and
catering. At the Annual General Meeting held in Newcastle upon Tyne today,
the Chairman Ian Gregg said:
'We have continued to trade well since the preliminary announcement of our
results in March. Like-for-like sales in the first quarter grew by 5.2%,
despite a slow start due to the pattern of New Year trading. The trend in
April was even stronger, albeit compared with a relatively disappointing
trading period last year.
Overall this encouraging start, which will be offset by a less favourable
Christmas trading pattern, underpins my expectation that we will be able to
report another year of good progress.'
