Greggs PLC
15 May 2000
CHAIRMAN'S A.G.M. STATEMENT
Greggs plc is the UK's leading retailer specialising in sandwiches, savouries
and other bakery products, with a particular focus on takeaway food and
catering. At the Annual General Meeting held in Newcastle upon Tyne today,
the Chairman Ian Gregg said:
'I am happy to report a continuation of the encouraging trend I noted when we
announced our preliminary results in March. We have achieved good sales and
profit progress in the year to date.
We are deriving benefits from our past capital expenditure, and are continuing
to make substantial investments in our brands, shops, products and people to
drive future growth. Our new £2 million group technical centre in Newcastle
upon Tyne opened on schedule last month, and I am confident that this
state-of-the-art facility will enable us to enhance our competitive edge by
developing even more enjoyable products that continue to offer excellent value
for money.
I remain confident that 2000 will be another year of profitable growth for
Greggs, as we progress towards our strategic goal of building Europe's finest
bakery-related retail business.'
