GREGGS plc
TRADING UPDATE
The group's strong volume growth continued during the second half, with a
particularly good performance from the Greggs takeaway food ranges.
Like-for-like sales were strong, in line with our budgets, and the overall
growth rate in the second half was higher than that reported for the first
half, when group like-for-like sales advanced by 6 per cent. This good
progress was assisted by a substantial improvement in trading over the two
final weeks of the year, only partly reflecting comparison with an unusually
weak period in 1999 when the number of trading days was reduced because both
Christmas and New Year fell at weekends, and by the additional Millennium bank
holiday.
