                  New member appointed to the Audit Committee

The Board of GlaxoSmithKline plc announces that Dr Lucy Shapiro has been
appointed a member of the company's Audit Committee with immediate effect.

Dr Lucy Shapiro was appointed a Non-executive Director of GlaxoSmithKline plc in
May 2000 and had been a Non-executive Director of SmithKline Beecham plc since
1996.
