                                 BOARD CHANGE



The  Great  Universal  Stores P.L.C (GUS) announces the resignation  from  its
Board  of  Directors,  on  8 September 2000, of Mr P  L  Weigh,  the  Managing
Director  of  its Finance Division.  This follows the sale of its  subsidiary,
Highway  Vehicle Management, and the decision to wind down the  activities  of
General Guarantee Finance.
