GUS APPOINTS CEO FOR EXPERIAN NORTH AMERICA
The Great Universal Stores P.L.C. today announces the appointment of Craig
Smith as Chief Executive for Experian North America, with effect from 1 July.
Craig, 49, was one of the five founding executives of MBNA America Bank and
spent 12 years with the company from its launch in 1982. Whilst at MBNA, his
responsibilities ranged from marketing to risk control and from IT to
international management. Craig has over 25 years of senior retail banking
experience and, since 1994, has run his own international management
consultancy, Hamilton Partners, specialising in advising financial services
organisations around the world.
In addition, John Saunders, who has been Chief Executive of Experian in the UK
since 1996, becomes Chief Executive of a new combined UK and International
division.
Craig and John will each report directly to John Peace, Group Chief Executive
of GUS.
John Peace commented:
'Craig Smith brings tremendous management skills to this new role and I am
delighted to welcome him to the team. His background and understanding of our
core markets and clients' needs mean he is ideally placed to lead our US
operations.
'John Saunders' abilities have been demonstrated by the success of Experian
UK, where profits have doubled during the four years of his leadership. I am
very pleased that he has accepted the additional challenge of leading a
combined UK and International division.'
