Directors' Notification of Dealing in Shares

The Great Universal Stores PLC has received notification that Lord Harris of
Peckham (a director of the Company) has today purchased 25,000 Ordinary shares
of 25p each in the Company at a price of £4.78 per share.  Lord Harris has a
non-beneficial interest in these shares.

Following this purchase, Lord Harris now holds the following interests in the
ordinary shares of 25p each in the Company:

             Beneficial:         7,200
             Non-beneficial:    25,000
