GUS plc: PURCHASE OF OWN SECURITIES

GUS plc today announces that it has purchased, in a series of transactions, EUR
32,000,000 nominal amount of its 4.125% bonds due 12 July 2007, representing
5.3% of the original issue. These bonds will be cancelled. Following this
purchase EUR 568,000,000 nominal amount of these bonds remains in issue.
