APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Halma, the leading safety and environmental technology group, announces the
appointment of Stephen Pettit as a non-executive Director of the Company with
effect from 16 September 2003. Mr Pettit succeeds the late Lord McGowan.
Stephen Pettit, 52, is a former Director of Cable & Wireless plc where he led
the mergers with Mercury, Bell CableMedia, Nynex CableComms and Videotron. For
his last three years with Cable & Wireless, Mr Pettit was Executive Director
(Corporate Development). Prior to joining Cable & Wireless, he was Chief
Executive, Petrochemicals of BP Chemicals, part of BP plc where Mr Pettit spent
20 years of his executive career.
Geoff Unwin, Chairman of Halma, commented on the appointment:
'Stephen is a welcome addition to the Halma Board. He brings a useful mix of
large and small company experience, often in regulated and international
industries, which is very relevant to Halma. In both his executive and non-
executive careers he has worked in companies where safety and the environment
are key issues and has been involved in the introduction of new technologies
into global markets - we know that he will make a real contribution to Halma's
future. The Board looks forward to working with Stephen.'
Stephen Pettit holds non-executive positions with Damovo (Chairman), Norwood
Systems (Chairman), National Grid Transco plc, National Air Traffic Systems and
KBC Advanced Technologies plc. There are no further details to disclose under
paragraph 6.F.2(b) to (g) of the Listing Rules.
