                                  Board Change

The Board of UK COAL announces that James Murray, Chairman of the Property
Committee, is stepping down as a non-executive director with effect from 30
April 2006. The role of the Property Committee will be assumed by a re-organised
executive property function, under the direction of a new Head of Property, a
position Mr Murray was instrumental in defining.

David Jones, Chairman, commented:  'Jim Murray has added considerable value to
the Board and the development of our property strategy and he leaves with our
thanks.'
