UK COAL PLC



UK COAL PLC (the Company) announces the purchase on 28 March 2003 of 700,000
ordinary shares in the capital of the Company by Mourant & Co Trustees Ltd as
Trustees of the UK COAL Employee Share Trust (the Trustee), at a price of 69.5
pence per Share, for the purpose of satisfying, in due course, awards under the
Company's Long Term Incentive Plan.



For Companies Act purposes, each Executive Director of the Company is
technically interested in the Shares held by the UK COAL Employee Share Trust.
