UK COAL PLC ("UK Coal" or the "Company")
KELLINGLEY COLLIERY
UK COAL announces that, following intensive inspections underground since Tuesday's fatality, production has now recommenced at Kellingley Colliery. A build-up to full production will take place over the next seven days.
In April this year, the new Board of UK Coal set out its assessment of the performance of UK Coal and its plans for the recovery of this company.
Top of that recovery plan was the improvement of the Company's safety record. All traditional industries have found that it can be a long and arduous journey requiring the overhaul of equipment, processes, working methods, training and work procedures. This work is already underway, led both internally and with the support of external advisors, DuPont. Tuesday's tragic accident at Kellingley is a bitter reminder of how important this work is.
UK Coal will publish the results of its own investigation into this week's accident as soon as practicable.
A full and independent investigation is underway by the HSE. UK Coal will continue to work closely with the HSE on all aspects of health and safety.
