UK Coal PLC 13 December 2006 UK COAL PLC • Planning permission granted for 60 acre Waverley business park • Planning application being made for Prince of Wales, Pontefract development London, December 13, 2006: UK COAL PLC ('UK COAL') today announces that planning permission has been granted for its proposed 60 acre business park at Waverley, South Yorkshire, by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. The business park will comprise some 650,000 sq feet (60,000 sq metres) of mixed Business, General Industrial, Storage and Distribution, Hotel and Ancillary Leisure and Retail space. UK COAL today also announces that it has held substantial pre-application negotiations with Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council and that, next week, it will be submitting to the Authority the Planning Application for the redevelopment of its Prince of Wales site at Pontefract in West Yorkshire. The Application will contain proposals for developing over 900 homes and some 250,000 sq ft of employment space and community facilities. Planning approval is anticipated in the second quarter of 2007. Highfield Commercial Business Park This consent forms the first phase of the intended regeneration of the Waverley/ Orgreave area of Rotherham which in due course targets to provide approximately 4,000 new homes and up to a million square feet of employment space with ancillary leisure, retail and community facility development. 2. Prince of Wales, Pontefract The Application will be made on 21 December and follows several months of consultation with Stakeholders and detailed negotiations with senior officers of Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council with whom UK COAL entered into a Regeneration Partnership Agreement in the middle of 2006. The scheme is intended by UK COAL to represent an exemplar for the principles of sustainable development with major economic benefits to the Wakefield Five Towns renaissance area.
