Update re. AES Drax

                                   UK COAL PLC

Subsequent to last Thursday's statement, UK COAL is pleased to announce that it
has now received half the outstanding payment due from AES Drax.  The balance is
due on 25 October.  Supplies of coal to AES Drax remain temporarily suspended
and are expected to resume in November.  In the meantime, UK COAL has secured
the sale of a significant proportion of the suspended tonnage to another of its
generator customers.
