HENRY BOOT PLC
Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre
At a meeting of Aberdeen City Council yesterday, councillors approved the master plan and business case for the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC). This will offer a fantastic resource to the residents and businesses of Aberdeen and beyond, assisting economic growth and attracting more events to the north east of Scotland, further supporting Aberdeen as a world energy city and the energy capital of Europe.
The new AECC is more than twice the size of the existing exhibition centre and now that the master plan and business case has been approved, Henry Boot will submit detailed plans targeting a planning permission by the end of 2015 to develop the initial phase of the project, including the 750,000 sq ft exhibition and conference centre, two hotels and an anaerobic digestion green energy centre.
Henry Boot Developments had the site, on which the scheme will be built, under contract and will act as development partner, alongside Aberdeen City Council, to deliver this major project. Construction work is expected to commence by mid 2016 and is due to complete late 2018. It is estimated that the gross development value of this first phase is over £300m.
The master plan also envisages a further 400,000 sq ft of business park accommodation and the redevelopment of the existing conference centre site.
