Hiscox plc: Ralph Jones resignation

Hiscox plc announces that Ralph Jones III, a Director of
Hiscox plc and Managing Director of the Hiscox Insurance
Company, has decided to leave the company to re-join the
Chubb Group.  Ralph has been offered the role of Chief
Executive of Chubb Executive Risk Inc. in the USA, and will
take up that role on 15th November.

Sian Fisher, the head of the Hiscox Professional Insurances
Division, has been appointed to the Board of the Insurance
Company as Director of Underwriting, and Ian Martin, the
Company Secretary, has been appointed Finance and Operations
Director.  They will both report to Bronek Masojada, the
Group Chief Executive of Hiscox plc, who will also assume
the role of Managing Director of Hiscox Insurance Company,
subject to regulatory approval.  The Hiscox Insurance
Company is also pleased to announce the appointment of David
Sweeney, previously of the Independent Insurance, to head
Hiscox's operations in the North of England.

The Chairman, Robert Hiscox, commented : 'Ralph has been
offered an enormous opportunity to return to America to run
a large operation in his area of expertise - Directors and
Officers Liability.  We are delighted for him and have
released him immediately.  We have a very strong team to
continue the rapid progress of the Hiscox Insurance Company,
and it will be business as usual.'

Sian Fisher joined Hiscox in 1987 and was a founding Hiscox
Partner.  She has worked in the Hiscox Insurance Company
since 1997, building a very successful book of Professional
Indemnity business which is being expanded to cover all
property and liability perils for certain professions.

Ian Martin qualified as a chartered accountant with Price
Waterhouse in 1990 where he specialised in insurance
matters.  He joined Hiscox in 1996 and moved to work in the
Hiscox Insurance Company in 1998 dealing with finance and
operations.

David Sweeney comes to Hiscox from the Independent where he
was Regional Manager for the North West of England.  He
joins on 3 November 1999 to run Hiscox Harrogate, the
Northern base of Hiscox in the UK.
