                           Transaction in own shares

Hamilton, Bermuda - Hiscox Ltd ('Hiscox') announces that today it purchased
566,723 ordinary shares of 5p each to hold in treasury. The highest price paid
per share was 240p, the lowest price paid was 234.5p and the average price paid
was 237.33p per share. Following the above purchase Hiscox holds 7,222,260
ordinary shares as treasury shares and has 390,842,684 ordinary shares in issue
(excluding the treasury shares).
