Trading Update
MFI Furniture Group Plc today issues its scheduled trading statement for the
period from Boxing Day to 21 March, following the completion of its Winter Sale.
Group orders in the period were £487 million, representing an increase of 5% on
a total basis, and 3% on a same store basis compared to last year.

Howden Joinery delivered strong double-digit growth with total orders up 25% on
the same period in 2003. Same store growth was 20%.
In UK Retail, total orders were down 3% with same store orders down 4%, broadly
in line with the trend reported on 26 February. Total kitchen orders were up on
the same period last year and bathrooms and sofas are still growing rapidly.
Bedrooms and beds have continued to underperform in our out-of-town stores.
Hygena Cuisines, our French retail business, recorded a strong performance with
total orders up 33% and same store orders in local currency up 19% on the same
period last year.
Our next comment to the market will be at the Annual General Meeting on 20 May
2004.
